Kagome Higurashi is a young girl from modern times who lives with her family near the ancient Higure shrine. Unbeknownst to Kagome, she is the reincarnation of the priestess Kikyo and possesses the "Jewel of Four Souls" (Shikon jewel). One unfortunate day, Kagome discovers an ancient well near her home and is suddenly transported through the well to a feudal Japan inhabited by demons. There, she meets Inuyasha, the son of a powerful demon father and a human mother, who is pinned to a tree by a cursed arrow.
