Allie is a teenager who has recently come out of the closet and keeps her girlfriend a secret from her Chinese-American family. During the Hungry Ghost Festival, Allie meets the ghost of a lost relative named Maxine, who was queer during her life a few decades ago. Although they come from different eras, they discover that they share many feelings related to the struggle to belong, especially within the context of their own family heritage.
